Construction of new hospice in Backnang

Since 2004 the Hospizstiftung Rems-Murr-Kreis e.V. (hospice foundation) has been running a inpatient hospice. Eight guests find space there and are in palliative care. The offer of the hospice, however, goes far beyond the physical needs of the guests: Physical and mental, social and spiritual needs find room there - as well as their relatives. "We want to give guests and their families the opportunity to say goodbye in dignity and to spend as much time as possible in a pleasant atmosphere together, without having to worry about the daily care," says the managing director of the hospice foundation, Heinz Franke.
The building has become too small for the needs and the premises no longer meet today's standards. Therefore, the Hospice Foundation has decided to erect a new building next to the existing house. Twelve rooms will be available for guests, plus extra ones for relatives. In addition, a shared lounge with kitchen opens the possibility of encounters. "It is important to us that we maintain the familiar environment which our guests value so much," says Franke. "That's why we decided to only increase the size of the new building by 50 percent. This allows us more capacity with consistent personal care. "

The new hospice will cost around 3.3 million euros. The association relies on donations. The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation made a contribution of 100,000 euros. "We greatly appreciate the work of the Hospizstiftung Rems-Murr-Kreis. I have already visited former employees in the hospice,  explains Robert Mayr. "Of course, we would be very happy if many people or organizations followed our example, so that the necessary funds are raised quickly."

In addition to the in-house care, all supplementary hospice services will also find space in the new house:
• The child and youth hospice service "Pusteblume", which cares for both sick children on an outpatient basis and supports young people whose parents are affected by illness and death.
• the coordinating office for outpatient volunteer hospice care in the Rems-Murr district,
• Specialized Outpatient Palliative Care (SAPV),
• Training rooms for the volunteers and the administration of the Hospizstiftung Rems-Murr-Kreis e.V ..
