Science & Research

The most important specialist area among the funded projects in the science and research sector have so far been sustainability research and forest sciences. More than 80 projects are currently being supported worldwide - from Greenland to China. A major partner is the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, which thanks to the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation has been endowed with a professorship for forest and forest history since 2005. "We not only look back, but also deal with very current topics," explains Robert Mayr. For example, particularly outstanding research work by young scientists is awarded the German Forest Science Prize every two years. New to the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation's portfolio are, among other things, the endowed professorship for forest genetics at the University of Freiburg and increased funding for the profile field “Environment and Sustainability”.

Health

One of the great concerns of the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation is to enable physicians, researchers and scientists to devote their attention to further advances in modern medicine. The focus of sponsorship in this case is on the Klinikum Stuttgart. The training of young staff has been supported for many years, a liver center and the center for lung medicine were set up and the “Stuttgart Cancer Center (SCC) –Eva Mayr-Stihl Tumor Center” was established. The latter serves to promote the interdisciplinary exchange of information among specialists to the benefit of more than 11,000 patients annually. The foundation has already signaled its support to the Klinikum for the coming years. “There are still more areas where we can work together to make a difference”, says Eva Mayr-Stihl. Example: A new center for personalized medicine that is being established with the help of the foundation. The interdisciplinary care of cancer patients at the Stuttgart Clinic is massively strengthened by funding from the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation.

Art & Culture

In the area of art and culture the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation supports only carefully selected projects, predominantly in Waiblingen and Stuttgart. The Galerie Stihl  Waiblingen, the “Pavilion for Waiblingen” by Ólafur Elíasson, the sundial by Tobias Rehberger, the roundabout sculpture by Stephan Balkenhol – the list of the works of art the foundation has initiated and financed for Waiblingen in the past few years could be continued. As to whether the idea is to give Waiblingen citizens works of art by world famous artists or make them accessible in the Galerie: “Our aim is to make art available to everyone. It is an enrichment and pleasure to be enjoyed by all, regardless of age or background”, say the patrons. There are also selected projects in Stuttgart such as support for the large exhibitions in the State Museum Stuttgart, the Hugo Wolf Academy’s International Art Song Competition and other individual projects of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
