Hugo Wolf Academy: International Art Song Competition

The international Hugo Wolf Academy has regularly staged the International Art Song Competition in Stuttgart since 1987.  The competition has produced a number of young prize winners who form our concert life today: Christiane Oelze and Matthias Goerne are among them, as are Birgid Steinberger and Michael Nagy. In the Stuttgart master class for art song, experienced singers pass their art onto young up-and-coming artists.

The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation has supported the art song competition regularly since 2012.

The origin of the International Hugo Wolf Academy for Singing, Poetry and Art Song in  Stuttgart can be traced back to a circle of lovers of art song and singing technique who gathered around Hugo Faißt, the Stuttgart lawyer and friend of the composer, as early as 1894, i.e. still during Wolf’s lifetime.
