10,000 euros for Waiblingen citizens in need
For more than 25 years, the foundation has supported communities in which a STIHL site is located or to which the founders have a personal connection with a Christmas donation. Eva Mayr-Stihl was guided in these donations by the charitable commitment of her father Andreas Stihl, who set up a benevolent fund within the company at an early stage.
Foundations regularly receive requests for help in individual cases. Checking these is time-consuming, as there are also regulations for charitable aid. This is another reason why the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation works together with local authorities: The town of Waiblingen will again receive 10,000 euros in 2024 and can use these funds to support needy citizens for whom the existing social safety net is not sufficient. The local councillors and social welfare offices know the situation on the ground best and can assess where help is needed and provide further assistance. In the summer of the following year, the foundation receives an anonymised report from the city on the proper use of the funds.
Michael von Winning, Board Member of the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation, explains the motives: ‘Waiblingen was very close to the heart of our founder Eva Mayr-Stihl - and the same applies to our founder and Chairman of the Board Robert Mayr. She always emphasised how important it was for her to give something back to the town. That is why she began very early on to make funds available to the city for charitable purposes. In the meantime, our Christmas donation has become a good tradition.’
