Groundbreaking for the new tumor center at the Stuttgart Clinic
Every year more than 10,000 people with tumor diseases are treated at the Stuttgart Clinic. The Stuttgart Cancer Center (SCC) - Tumor Center Eva Mayr-Stihl bundles the expertise in cancer treatment in Baden-Württemberg's largest clinic.
The treatment of malignant diseases has made great strides in recent years. This is due to new innovative therapies and the increasing interdisciplinary and patient-centered collaboration. Specialists from different fields work hand in hand. In order to further strengthen this development and create the best framework conditions, the offers are also to be brought together spatially.
Today was the start of construction for the building designed as part of the new Katharinenhospital, which will combine these cancer medicine offers under one roof. The new home of the Stuttgart Cancer Center - Eva Mayr-Stihl Tumor Center is being built in a prominent location on the corner of Kriegsbergstrasse and Herdweg. In addition to the oncological day clinic, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy, other specialist areas of cancer care at the Stuttgart Clinic will work together for people in the region in joint consultation hours.
The new building with a usable area of 7,000 square meters is to be completed in 2024 and represents the next important stage in the renovation at the Mitte location. The state capital Stuttgart is the sponsor of the Stuttgart Clinic. The municipal council decided to build the Katharinen Hospital as part of the Stuttgart Clinic at the beginning of 2018. With a budget of over 800 million euros, the major construction project is the largest construction project in the city. Stuttgart's hospital mayor Thomas Fuhrmann praises: “The Stuttgart Clinic is already one of the best addresses in cancer medicine. With the new building, we are now creating even better framework conditions for strong medical care in the state capital in the future - and attractive jobs ”. In a prominent location across from the Lindenmuseum, Stadtgarten and university, the new building is also important in terms of urban planning. “With Gustav Epple Bauunternehmunung, we have won a traditional Stuttgart company as a partner for the execution. Landmarks of the city such as the television tower or the Liederhalle were built by Gustav Epple in the past, ”emphasized Thomas Fuhrmann and recalled that in the neighboring Liederhalle the Stuttgart Clinic currently operates one of the largest vaccination centers in the country in timelessly beautiful rooms.
The cost planning provides for a total budget of around 95 million euros for the new building. The Medical Director of the Stuttgart Clinic, Prof. Jan Steffen Jürgensen, explains: “This is an important step and the next stage in the new construction of the Katharinen Hospital at the Stuttgart Clinic. In hardly any other area is the cooperation of many disciplines as crucial as in cancer medicine. Here we will offer bundled expertise under one roof. The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation has been extremely helpful to us for years and enables offers for patients which are great. "
The Stuttgart Clinic has been working closely with the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation for many years, particularly in the field of cancer medicine. A center for personalized medicine has been under construction in the Stuttgart Cancer Center - Tumor Center Eva Mayr-Stihl (SCC) since 2020. Founder Eva Mayr-Stihl is satisfied: "The new building, the modern technical equipment and the highly qualified employees of the Stuttgart Clinic will contribute to even better cancer care under one roof". Cancer affects more and more people. At the same time, there are great advances in research and treatment - we want to support them. "
The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation has so far supported the Stuttgart Clinic with more than ten million euros - with significantly increased funding amounts in recent years. This makes it one of the most important sponsors of the Stuttgart Clinic.
