Waiblingen's Summer of Culture September 3 - 12, 2021

Summer is here - and culture is back! With a fantastic program, the valley floodplain will be the setting for the “Waiblinger Kultursommer” 2021.

In the large open air summer festival, the city of Waiblingen presents a top-class and diverse program with artists from the city, the region and far beyond on three stages, in three locations.

The idea for a larger series of events in summer 2021 was inspired by the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation. The prospect of substantial funding enabled the city to think big and organize a cultural summer in its current form.

Robert Mayr, board member and founder of the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation, is pleased: “The city of Waiblingen has succeeded in luring the really big ones to the Remstal. I am very impressed. I won't miss the evening with Daniel Hope, Thomas Hampson and Melanie Diener. "

The Waiblingen municipal council unanimously decided on the Waibling cultural summer and made municipal funds available. The summer of culture should set an example and after a long time make it possible for artists and cultural workers to present themselves to the public again and for people to come together to experience culture “live” together.

Mayor Andreas Hesky adds: “The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation once again impressively demonstrates its deep connection with the city and its patronage for culture. With the donation, the foundation enables the infrastructure for this festival week to be provided. The foundation thus clears the “stage” for culture and a sense of community - everything that we had to wait a long time for and what people are looking forward to all the more! This has also been expressed by the municipal council with its unanimous decision of the cultural summer. I'm really looking forward to this project ”.

The Brühlwiese near the community center will become a festival location with top national acts from pop, classical music, dance and comedy, who will also present themselves together with well-known local and regional artists:

The Fantastischen Vier, one of the most successful German pop bands of all time, will be guests three times. In a world without Corona they fill stadiums, in Waiblingen they present themselves to the fans in an almost familiar atmosphere.

Waiblingen's figurehead in terms of comedy, Christoph Sonntag, together with Florian Schroeder, winner of the German Cabaret Prize 2021, strains the laughing muscles with intelligent and subtle humor.

Daniel Hope, one of the world's best violinists, and the American star baritone Thomas Hampson, mentor at the International Opera Workshop Waiblingen, take the audience to a “Romantic Night” with works by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Kurt under the motto “Hollywood in Waiblingen” Weill, John Williams and others invite you as a special guest: Melanie Diener, world-famous soprano from Waiblingen and also a mentor at the International Opera Workshop in Waiblingen.

But taking part is also the trump card in the Waiblingen cultural summer. When “Singing for All” with Patrick Bopp from Füenf & Band + special guests, the audience becomes a star.

The final performaner will be Eric Gauthier, internationally renowned choreographer and artistic director of Gauthier Dance, one of the most successful German dance companies. A matinee awaits the visitors with highlights from the programs of Gauthier Dance and special guests.

Under the general conditions of the applicable corona ordinance, up to 2,000 people can find space on the Brühlwiese. There is standing room, seating and picnic areas, which ensure a relaxed summer atmosphere and at the same time enable safe and carefree cultural enjoyment.

On the idyllic Schwaneninsel at the Schwanen cultural center, surrounded by the Rems, local and regional young bands and ensembles present themselves to their audience in the shade of the chestnut trees. There is a family program with performances and hands-on activities under the historic coach house by the city wall.

Advance sales for the events on the Brühlwiese will start on July 12, 2021.

All offers are corona-compliant. In addition, it is planned to stream events live and thus make them accessible to an audience that cannot be there.

Controlled entrances and exits at all three stage locations, contactless digital ticket control, digital contact data tracking and the test offer, e.g. in the nearby test center in the community center, ensure compliance with the hygiene requirements and a safe visit to the events.
