Four million euros and a groundbreaking ceremony for a new day care center
The construction of the new municipal day-care center on Schorndorfer Straße is progressing: Mayor Sebastian Wolf, Chairman of the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation Robert Mayr and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Andreas Hesky, Mayor Dieter Schienmann and architect Alexander Wendlik led the on Monday, April 3, 2023 symbolic groundbreaking.
“Due to the increasing number of children, the new day-care center is urgently needed. It will certainly be very beautiful - with a large garden and the location near Rems and the outdoor pool. We are very pleased about the generous support of the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation for this project", said Mayor Sebastian Wolf in his welcoming address. Robert Mayr replied: "We are very happy to support the city with this ensemble of day care center and subsidized housing. The city of Waiblingen is one of our most important sponsorship partners and we listen when the city contacts us with an important concern.” He presented the mayor with the first piece of equipment for the new day-care center, which was also intended to symbolize the start of construction: a toy excavator.
The new day-care center will have four groups. It offers 60 places for children over 3 years old and 10 places for children under 3 years old. The city of Waiblingen is the owner and operator of the daycare center. Alexander Wendlik from the responsible architectural office COAST explained the special features of the building and concluded: "There is hardly a better investment in the future than building a kindergarten in which children can develop positively. This kindergarten, in sustainable timber construction, child-friendly rooms with plenty of natural daylight, healthy materials and surfaces, shows how sustainability can be thought of and implemented as a whole. A healthy environment is the best basis for a good development of children.”
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation, Andreas Hesky, was one of the "fathers" of the project and was also present at the groundbreaking ceremony and was very satisfied: "Fortunately, the city of Waiblingen and the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation, with the support of this Kita found a good way to get funding. The project was very close to my heart during my tenure as Mayor of Waiblingen, as it will expand the two socially important areas of "rental housing" and "childcare".
Originally, the Mayor at the time, Hesky, had proposed to the founder, Robert Mayr, that he should support subsidized housing on Schorndorfer Strasse, and the foundation had earmarked four million euros for this. However, there was no agreement between the external tax consultant commissioned by the city and the foundation and the tax authorities when interpreting the provisions of the tax code. In order not to jeopardize the charitable status of the foundation and to avoid delays, the city and foundation instead agreed to reallocate the funding to the municipal day-care center, which is to be built in the immediate vicinity of the housing project. In this way, the municipal funds that are freed up by the day-care center are available for social housing construction.
