Baden-Württemberg Cancer Association receives generous funding

The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation supports the Baden-Württemberg Cancer Association with a grant of 30,000 euros. This generous grant will help bolster the Cancer Association's Hardship Fund and bring hope and support to those in need during their most difficult time.

The sum of 30,000 euros will flow entirely into the hardship fund of the Baden-Württemberg Cancer Association. Money from this pot is used to help people who have been diagnosed with cancer and are in financial distress as a result. Those affected receive support of 55 euros per month over a period of ten months. In special cases, a one-off payment of between 100 and 250 euros can also be granted. "At first glance, the amount of the payments seems low," explains Cancer Association Managing Director Ulrika Gebhardt. "But we know from the feedback from the recipients that even these small amounts can help enormously." The Cancer Association has 70,000 euros each year for the hardship fund.

In the first quarter of 2023 alone, the Cancer Association has already approved 51 applications for grants from the hardship fund. For comparison: In the whole of 2022, 178 applications were approved. "Since the costs for food, heating and energy have risen so much since September 2022, the number of applications has increased significantly," says Ulrika Gebhardt. “It is foreseeable that our previous budget will not be enough. That is why we are all the more grateful for the donation from the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation.”

Michael von Winning, board member of the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation, also commented on the donation: "The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation has been committed to important social issues for many years. The Cancer Association does an outstanding job in the fight against cancer and in providing support by those affected. We hope that this donation will help give those affected confidence in their most difficult time."

Medicine is one of the most important funding priorities of the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation. But science and research as well as art and culture are also supported by the privately financed, non-profit foundation. The foundation was set up in 1986 by Eva Mayr-Stihl, the daughter of Andreas Stihl, the founder of the power tool manufacturer in Waiblingen, together with her husband. Since then, more than 60 million euros have been spent on charitable projects.

The Baden-Württemberg Cancer Association is part of the German Cancer Society and has been active since 1973. The association sees its main task in prevention and in informing and advising those affected. With the help of the intensive networking of all stakeholders involved in cancer treatment, such as oncological tumor centers, resident oncologists, psychologists, outpatient cancer advice centers, rehabilitation centers or self-help groups, patients are able to receive optimal care.
