20 Germany scholarships for Freiburg forestry students

The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation has been funding Germany Scholarships at the University of Freiburg for many years. In 2024/25, 15 students from the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources benefited from these scholarships. ‘Next year, we will even be providing 20 Germany Scholarships at the University of Freiburg,’ says Susann Pfeiffer, who is responsible for Science & Research at the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation. ‘Because the promotion of young academics was already close to our founder's heart. That's why we want to further expand our commitment.’

The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship provides high-achieving students with educational opportunities regardless of their social background and the location of their university. This is shown by the results of the legally required evaluation and accompanying research on the Deutschlandstipendium. Daniela Mast from the Student Support Centre at the University of Freiburg explains: ‘In addition to excellent academic performance, social commitment and biographical challenges also count when selecting scholarship holders. The requirements for the Deutschlandstipendium therefore go beyond the usual criteria and promote the further development of ‘soft’ biographical factors in addition to pure academic achievement.’

The basic idea behind the Deutschlandstipendium is to recognise the outstanding achievements of committed students and to help promote the skilled workers of tomorrow. By funding the Deutschlandstipendium scholarships, the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation is also taking the federal government on board: it doubles the amounts in favour of the young scholarship holders. Mast explains the implementation: ‘180 high-achieving and committed students at the University of Freiburg will receive a Deutschlandstipendium of 300 euros per month in the 2024/25 academic year. Half of the annual scholarship will be raised by the university from regional and national sponsors, including the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation. This raised 324,000 euros. The other half is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, totalling 648,000 euros.’
